Volicon Observer® Professional Demo in Microsoft’s 2011 NAB Show Booth
Innovative Microsoft Silverlight Implementation in Observer® Professional Yields New Degree of Flexibility in Digital Monitoring and Logging Workflows
BURLINGTON, Mass. — April 4, 2011 — Volicon today announced that at the 2011 NAB Show, the company will participate in Microsoft Corp.’s showcase of an innovative media and entertainment solution. Throughout the show, the Microsoft booth (SL3812) will host a demonstration of the Volicon Observer® Professional video content monitoring and logging system in the partner pod, which features a streamlined and flexible Web interface powered by Microsoft Silverlight.
“The Microsoft presence at the 2011 NAB Show will highlight solutions that simplify the digital supply chain for the media and entertainment space, and Volicon’s implementation of Microsoft Silverlight technology is an excellent example of how the rich features and capabilities provide a platform for exceptionally versatile and cost-effective broadcast solutions,” said Jake Winett, director of Media and Entertainment Industry Solutions, Microsoft Communications Sector.
Designed for television stations and networks, the Observer Professional system unites compliance logging, quick and easy scheduling of recording, and intuitive search capabilities in a single Web-browser interface to support simplified media monitoring workflows.
Built with Silverlight, the Observer Professional serves as a cross-browser and cross-platform solution that offers great portability, ease of use, and extensibility on the user’s preferred operating system. The intuitive, streamlined user interface of the Observer Professional works on both Mac® and PC platforms; supports Internet Explorer, Safari®, Google Chrome™, and Firefox® browsers; and enables exports in H.264, Flash®, MPEG-2, or MPEG-4 formats. At the 2011 NAB Show, Volicon will be introducing the newly designed Manual Scheduled Recording Module (MSRM), which enables new content management opportunities for facilities who can schedule selective programming on a recurring basis along with robust search and metadata customization tools.
Because this versatile new Web-based interface can run on Observer Enterprise fully redundant, RAID-5 hardware, it also extends the availability of key Observer monitoring tools and recorded media to a broad range of users across a media organization.
“Silverlight offers our engineering and product design teams a flexible development framework for our cross-browser application, and we’ve been able to take advantage of this robust technology to deliver an innovative new Observer Professional user interface targeted to the demands of today’s digital broadcast workflows,” said Mike Asebrook, senior director of product marketing at Volicon. “We’re pleased to be invited to join Microsoft at the 2011 NAB Show to highlight the value and efficiencies our technologies enable in the delivery of broadcast content.”
