True Visions, Thailand’s Largest Cable Provider, Chooses Volicon Observer®
Digital Video Logging and Monitoring System Replaces Videotape for Streamlined and Efficient Regulatory Compliance
BURLINGTON, Mass. — Jan. 27, 2009 — Volicon today announced that True Visions, Thailand’s largest cable and satellite television provider, has implemented the Volicon Observer® media logging and monitoring system to enable compliance with broadcasting regulations. The Observer automatically records all aired content and provides an easy-to-access digital archive over a 30-day period as required by the Government of Thailand’s public relations department.
Prior to implementing the Observer, True Visions engineers relied on a videotape-based system to record and archive video from each channel. In addition to the physical shortcomings of tape, such as its short shelf life and large storage footprint, the old system created inefficiencies by requiring engineers to search manually through video to find needed clips, and to change, label, and store tapes at the end of each recording.
As a fully digital replacement for True Visions’ tape-based system, the Observer provides 24/7 recording and archiving of all video as it is broadcast over each of True Visions’ channels. The Observer’s easy-to-use search capability, based on the content’s closed captions, enables engineers to instantly access specific video clips from a Web browser interface and share them via e-mail with colleagues inside and outside the True Vision organization. With the success of the Observer for regulatory compliance, True Vision is broadening its use of the system for verification of advertising and competitive analysis. Sales, installation, and integration services have been provided by Trinergy, a Volicon reseller based in Thailand.
“The Observer is well-known in the industry for its outstanding performance and functionality, and Volicon has excellent site references from major broadcasters — so the choice was easy for us,” said Roengrit Sereejumroenrojn, senior manager of transmission. “With the Observer, we can count on consistent high-quality recorded video that is incredibly easy to access and use, and the savings in rack space, videotapes, and maintenance for VCR systems has yielded an impressive return on our investment.”
“Compliance with government broadcasting regulations is an issue confronting operators in virtually every market worldwide, and it’s further challenging for cable companies, given the vast array of programming they typically provide,” said Julius Perl, vice president of marketing at Volicon. “As True Visions has shown, the Observer can provide tremendous value by removing the inefficiencies and lowering the costs of compliance.”
