Volicon, a leading provider of video monitoring, recording, archiving, and streaming solutions, will introduce its latest version of software for the company’s award-winning Observer broadcast monitoring and logging system at NAB2006. The Observer 3.0 will offer a host of new features including, closed-caption display, export view for scheduled archiving, support for Front Porch Digital’s archiving systems, and support for import of as-run logs from Harris and Sundance.
“At Volicon we aim to integrate the feedback we get from our customers and the market into our product development,” said Julius Perl, vice president of marketing at Volicon. “We have achieved this with version 3.0 of the Observer software. The Observer is the most robust, full-featured monitoring and logging product on the market today. Our customers are finding valuable uses for Observer. Applications range from replacing tape for logging to competitive news analysis, ad verification, and compliancy reporting. Everyone involved in the broadcast chain — from engineering to news to general management — benefits from the use of Observer.”
Volicon’s Observer is an advanced video, audio, and data monitoring solution that allows broadcasters and other users to record, store, search, and retrieve media, in real time, from multiple broadcast sources. Users can view and manipulate the material from any desktop in the facility, as well as export it outside the facility via Volicon’s powerful, proprietary streaming media engine.
The Observer utilizes closed-captioned information to assist users in searching for specific clips. With version 3.0 of the Observer software, a new closed-caption display feature allows users to see captioning from their desktops, allowing for more direct and immediate verification of the integrity of the closed-captioning information. This feature further enhances broadcasters’ ability to assure their signal compliance.
The new version also allows users to schedule daily tasks to export specific content in a system-independent file format to be used with third-party applications. This exported content can also be archived onto DVD for shelf storage.
Via the new support feature from Front Porch Digital, media can be stored for up to 15 years and beyond and retrieved within minutes. The outdated content is automatically transferred to Front Porch Digital deep storage, freeing up online storage for newly acquired content. The archived content is retrieved automatically when the users needs to view it.
The Observer 3.0 software also supports Sundance and Harris Digital automation. The systems’ as-run log information is imported into the Observer system to segment the recorded content, allowing simplified program access and clip creation.
As part of Volicon’s commitment to supporting its customers, the company makes the Observer 3.0 upgrade available free of charge to customers holding a current software maintenance warranty.
In addition to version 3.0 of the Observer software, Volicon will introduce the Observer UNO, a one-channel version of the Observer, at NAB2006.
