Volicon ANGA Cable Show Preview Exhibiting With JDSU in Booth L11 - May 4-6 2010 Cologne, Germany
Volicon Observer® RPM at the ANGA Cable Show
With the worldwide explosion in linear and on-demand content, cable and satellite operators are placing more emphasis than ever before on quality of service and quality of experience. Setting the industry standard for video monitoring and logging, the Volicon Observer® RPM gives operators a powerful tool for delivering the highest-quality viewing experience possible. The Observer RPM provides proactive monitoring capabilities at the point in the delivery chain that is most critical: the output that viewers are actually seeing on their televisions.
The Observer RPM is a true content analysis tool as it measures, logs, and streams post-set-top box audio, video, and metadata. The system continuously scans the operator’s entire channel lineup round-the-clock and automatically tests signal integrity, detecting video faults such as black screen, frozen or no video, and violations of audio thresholds. When these errors are detected, the Observer RPM issues alerts (via e-mail, SMS, and SNMP) and bookmarks the problematic content when channels do not conform to prespecified limits.
At the ANGA Cable Show, Volicon will introduce a number of new enhancements to the Observer RPM family that give operators even greater control over the quality of their video services.
Proof-of-Experience Module
Available for the Observer® and Observer® RPM, the Proof-of-Experience module provides the operator visibility of the customer experience around MPEG impairments. The module works from SNMP traps issued by MPEG transport stream analyzers and records the post set-top box audio, video, and metadata. The module enables the operator to identify which MPEG impairments affect the customer experience, saving technician time and resources.
Interactive Services Module
The Interactive Services module offers unprecedented new capabilities for users of the Observer® RPM to ensure the quality of not only linear content, but also on-demand and interactive content and advertising. Through scripting and graphical pattern matching enhancements, the module enables periodic testing of on-demand and interactive elements along side linear lineups. By providing automated periodic post-STB verification of these services, along with a 24x7 log, operators can ensure the proper availability and customer experience with these new, critical services.
Component and HDMI HD Monitoring
With the addition of component and HDMI HD testing, the Observer® RPM is now the first video monitoring solution to enable operators to remotely test, log, and stream HD content post set-top box. By providing frame-by-frame visibility of HD content, the operators are able to assure the availability, proper formatting, and quality of the HD programming and meet their customers’ expectations.
Virtual Remote Control
The Observer® RPM now offers an on-screen, graphical “virtual” remote control for real-time troubleshooting. This truly remote “remote” enables operators to verify and troubleshoot remotely all of the operator’s interactive and on-demand services.
Scheduled Recording Module
With the new Scheduled Recording module, the Observer® RPM provides verification of advertising and high-value content such as breaking news or sporting events. Driven by an XML schedule file or a GUI selection from an electronic program guide (EPG), the module allows the operator to establish channels and time periods to stay on one service and record it continuously. This content is monitored for A/V impairments while the system creates an easily viewable and exportable clip for archival or forwarding purposes. As-run logs from the program or ad insertion system may also be imported into the RPM system for easy advertising verification and reconciliation.
