Company Background
Volicon provides the broadcast and cable industries with the most efficient, reliable, and cost-effective automated multichannel video content logging and monitoring system for compliance, media analysis, content repurposing, and quality of service. Its Observer® real-time digital video monitoring and logging solutions are based on Volicon’s patent-pending Video Monitoring Architecture (VMA). VMA is comprised of a multichannel video streaming engine, interactive search, content analytics, and service monitoring and alarming capabilities. Volicon products and services meet the demanding requirements of broadcasters, cable and IPTV service providers, and enterprise and government organizations looking to improve broadcast product quality, enhance video management, and lower costs.
Volicon Observer®
As the industry standard for video monitoring and logging, the Volicon Observer® captures, stores, and indexes broadcast content from multiple channels, offering users simultaneous access to video from their desktop computers. Within the Observer family of real-time digital video monitoring and logging solutions, the Observer Remote Program Monitor (RPM) provides quality-of-experience monitoring [http://www.volicon.com/index.php/products/observer_rpm/] for IPTV, MSOs, independent cable operators, and satellite operators. Targeted to the demands of the cable industry, the Observer Scout enables operators to perform content-based, proactive monitoring and quality checks at audio/video (A/V) service handoffs to improve troubleshooting capabilities and significantly elevate the viewing experience.
Volicon Products at SCTE Canadian Summit 2011:
Observer® Scout
The Observer® Scout is a cost-effective yet powerful video-assurance network monitoring device that enables cable/IPTV operators, NOC engineers, or customer care engineers to perform quality checks at A/V service handoffs. Boasting key functionality taken from Volicon’s award-winning Observer and Observer RPM products, the Observer Scout is an attractively priced, professional solution for quality-of-experience (QoE)-based content monitoring, video recording, remote viewing, and troubleshooting of post-set-top box (STB) A/V feeds.
The 1-RU Observer Scout is the industry’s first affordable, industrial-grade content monitoring and logging solution to enable recording of up to three days of SD or HD content. The unit also facilitates remote viewing of recorded video, supports rapid troubleshooting for A/V feeds, and thereby eliminates costs associated with troubleshooting of persistent network issues. The Observer Scout includes an optional QoE module for continuous logging of signal faults, a Scheduled Recording option for selective recording of specific broadcast channels within designated time periods, and Volicon’s new Elemental Management Services software option, which enables centralized configuration and management of multiple units. Equipped with solid-state storage, the Observer Scout provides the high performance necessary for reliable edge deployment — at a price point that enables large-scale deployment.
New Observer® RPM Version 5.5
The latest release of the Observer® Remote Program Monitor (RPM) fulfills the video industry’s growing need to assure the quality of critical on-demand and interactive services [http://www.volicon.com/index.php/media_room/demos_and_videos/tmcnet_interview_with_andrew_sachs/] and advertising by leveraging automated video monitoring tools that can emulate customer actions. Through an easy-to-use Web interface, this post-set-top-box solution allows operators to monitor hundreds of channels, troubleshoot real-time video issues, and verify broadcast content and advertising in an exportable 24/7 log. By providing a remote view of the customer’s experience at the point the customer experiences it, the Observer RPM 5.5 enables providers to identify and troubleshoot problems with linear, on-demand, and interactive content quickly, before they turn into customer complaints — and avoid costly chronic troubleshooting sessions.
Specifically addressing the effective management of large-scale installations, the Observer RPM 5.5’s new Element Management Services (EMS) module enables centralized configuration and alert management of multiple probes in a large operation. RPM 5.5 also includes significant enhancements to the Interactive Services Module (ISM), which enables reliable testing of complex on-demand or interactive services using pattern matching, advanced decision-making, and improved quality-of-experience (QoE) detectors. The ISM now includes an Interactive Services Wizard, a desktop application for developing reliable interactive services scripts, and a module that enables the ISM’s operation on every encoder in the operation.
