Company Background
Volicon is the broadcast and cable industry’s most efficient, reliable, and cost-effective automated multi-channel video content logging and monitoring system for compliance, media analysis, content repurposing, and quality of service. Its Observer® real-time, digital video monitoring and logging solutions are based on Volicon’s patent-pending Video Monitoring Architecture (VMA). Volicon products and services meet the demanding requirements of broadcasters, cable and IPTV service providers, and enterprise and government organizations looking to improve broadcast product quality, enhance video management, and lower costs.
Introducing: Observer® EVO
At HD World, Volicon will unveil the Observer® EVO — a new version of the Observer that
adds features specifically for producers of editorial-based programming. Through 24/7 media monitoring, easy clip search and retrieval, and seamless export to editing systems, the Observer EVO greatly simplifies and streamlines the process of incorporating news clips into programs. With EVO, producers can continuously capture, archive, and index “of-interest” station and network channels, and quickly browse, view, and edit clips. EVO is able to record content in both HD and an SD browse proxy stream, which operators can then use to view and make “rough-cut” edits to the clip — therefore saving both disk space and network bandwidth. Then, the original HD stream is automatically transcoded into an industry-standard format for finishing within popular digital nonlinear editing systems.
Also at HD World
In addition to the Observer EVO, Volicon will be demonstrating the following:
Volicon Observer®-HD
The Observer®-HD is the broadcast industry’s first system to provide high-definition (HD) signal logging and monitoring capabilities, with support for Dolby® surround; the ability to record and preserve the 5.1 and 7.1 surround channels; and storage for 30 days and longer. The Observer-HD accepts signals from HD-SDI interfaces with embedded audio, and is optimized for the 16:9 aspect ratio of the HD signal and supports both the 720p and 1080i display resolution standards. The system supports large numbers of simultaneous users, giving them 24/7 access to live and archived HD content from their desktops via a Web browser interface. Broadcasters can record, store, search, retrieve, and view HD material in real time, from multiple broadcast sources and from any desktop within the broadcast facility. The system’s export capability makes it easy to share assets internally or repurpose them for external distribution via the Web or other platform.
Producer Module
Volicon will demonstrate its Producer Module, an option for the Observer® that enables broadcasters to capture and repurpose content in a variety of industry formats for outside use. The Producer Module provides operators with an easy-to-use platform for browsing aired content that has been recorded by the Observer and searching for and retrieving the desired video segment down to the individual frame level. The module then transcodes the segment into one of several industry-standard formats and automatically provides the output to either DVD, Web/FTP site, or a third party via e-mail. By making it much easier to locate small or obscure video segments quickly, the Producer Module opens the door for broadcasters to publish their content for a variety of uses, such as selling it to other news organizations or providing video clips to viewers who request them.
Content Matching Module
At HD World, Volicon will also demonstrate its new Content Matching Module, which enables operators to flag and access specific audio cues when they appear in a broadcast. The user supplies a prerecorded segment, which is stored on the server, and whenever the audio appears in a broadcast, the system issues a “content matched” alert with a link that gives the user immediate access to the video in which the segment occurred. The Content Matching Module has myriad uses for public information, government, and public relations professionals, such as the ability to track political campaigns, monitor coverage of advertisements and infomercials, or confirm airing of public service announcements.
