Volicon Observer wins TV Technology STAR Award @ IBC 2006
Volicon, a leading provider of advanced solutions for monitoring broadcasts, logging, archiving, and streaming of digital video, today announced that its Observer multichannel monitoring system was honored with a TV Technology STAR (Superior Technology Award Recipient) Award at IBC2006, one of the broadcast industry’s most notable awards for preeminent technological innovations. Volicon’s Observer is an advanced desktop video monitoring solution that delivers the power and capabilities of professional AV control rooms to ordinary desktop computers.
“The Observer adds tremendous efficiency to the monitoring of multichannel broadcasts, and it’s an honor that the system’s unique capabilities were recognized by TV Technology’s expert panel,” said Julius Perl, vice president of marketing at Volicon. “The system already has been adopted by a number of leading broadcasters, satellite providers, and cable operators, and we look forward to continued success with additional new installations in the
works around the world.”
With Observer, multiple channels of content are available on-demand, live or archived, from any desktop, and from any location using a Microsoft Internet Explorer®-compatible interface. Users have total video control with the ability to search, retrieve, view, analyze, annotate, share, and export video from the desktop. An intuitive Web-based GUI increases organizational efficiency by allowing mission-critical video broadcasts and analysis to be
used as work material.
Besides the original Observer system, Volicon also highlighted Observer RPM (Remote Program Manager), designed to help MSOs and cable operators monitor the quality of their broadcasts in central and remote unmanned headend facilities. The Observer RPM automates the channel-scanning process, scanning as many as 500 video channels continuously, to verify the presence of video and audio and to detect problems such as frozen video, black video, and loss of video signal.
At IBC2006, Volicon announced its newest product in the company’s award-winning line of Observer systems, Observer-HD. An industry first, the Observer-HD will offer users 30-day, HD signal logging and monitoring capabilities for two or four channels, and will feature Dolby 5.1 Sound. Volicon plans to begin delivery of the new Observer-HD later this year.
“STAR awards are given to interesting new products that help a user save money or accomplish a task in an easier way,” said Mark Hallinger, editor of TV Technology Europe.“The products selected help advance the industry — some were chosen because of technical novelty or innovation, some because they filled an important gap in the production or transmission chain, and some because they were just cool products.”
