Volicon Observer wins Best of IBC 2005
Volicon, Inc. was recently honored with “The Best of IBC Awards” for their Observer system by a panel of editorial judges from The IBC Daily, TVB USA and TVB Europe. These awards, introduced for the first time this year, spotlight the best 25 new product innovations at IBC2005. Volicon’s Observer is a high performance multi-channel video monitoring solution that enables broadcasters and cablecasters to perform advanced monitoring and video logging.
The IBC2005 Conference took place in Amsterdam from September 8-12 2005. IBC is widely known as the international showcase for the latest technology and foremost business ideas in broadcasting and media, and was attended this year by more than 43,000 individuals from more than 120 countries. Judges of this award were asked to select the most innovative, cleverest new product introductions from hundreds of prospects.
“We were especially looking for new products that clearly show the potential to make money, or save money, for end users, rather than clever technology for technology’s sake,” according to Fergal Ringrose, Editor, TVB Europe & The IBC Daily.
The team of judges was led by Ringrose and contributor Christina Fox, who was a key member of the “What Caught My Eye” team at IBC2005, who presented this conference session at the show. According to Fox, “We’ve integrated the ‘What Caught My Eye’ picks with the choices of our editorial team to produce The Best of IBC Awards.”
As described in the award coverage by The IBC Daily, TVB USA and TVB Europe, Volicon’s Observer is a “server that captures multiple off-air stations and retain all the video, audio and teletext for any amount of time, allowing it to replace VHS to store video for any legal or commercial purposes. Users can also view their own or other channels, compared against ratings data for analysis.”
Users of Volicon’s Observer can view their content live or archived from any PC, anywhere, at any time. The Observer’s interface works with Microsoft’s® Internet Explorer® Web browser running on off-the- shelf PCs with no need for special software. Familiar “VCR-style” controls are combined with color cues to clearly indicate channels displayed, whether they are live or recorded and which channel is providing the audio feed. Users can add or subtract channels from their display and switch between windowed, split and full-screen display with a simple mouse click. According to Eli Warsawski, President and CEO of Volicon, “We are honored to have been selected for this prestigious award. The Observer system is the result of years of dedication to a product that we knew held the potential for changing the way broadcasters and cablecasters operate.” Warsawski added, “We are grateful for this industry-wide recognition.”
