Operations personnel who run broadcast systems at television stations and networks have an increasingly complex set of responsibilities to juggle, due to the effects of several trends. From the number of outbound streams that have grown substantially over the years in order to accommodate the proliferation of signal formats to multiple partner organizations that are often employed to distribute signals across a range of delivery platforms, including satellite, cable, over-the-air, and Internet channels. Managing this complex ecosystem without proper support tools can be an exercise in barely controlled chaos, particularly when things go wrong.
During this 45 minute presentation, Gary Learner, CTO will discuss how to prevent information overload for network technical staff members so that they can make decisions both quicker and more effective. During this presentation, listeners will learn about the use of summary indicators along the path from signal source to destination, the importance of detailed error reports for fault analysis or system restoration, and the importance of error analysis algorithms to uncover subtle system discrepancies so that the user can review the whole signal flow on a single screen and visually compare video signals that have been captured at different signal processing stages.
Gary will conclude the session with a demo and Q&A.

Whether to avoid regulatory entanglement or to improve customer experience, programmers and VPDs will have to implement closed caption best practices while also monitoring and correcting captioning delivery where possible. While the final rules are still in flux, it is clear that programmer and VPDs not only need to pursue best practice arrangements with their captioning providers but also deploy automated monitoring and correction tools to ensure the final captioning experience. Throwing people at the problem is not a scalable or cost effective option.
During this ¾ hour webinar presentation, you will hear from Gary Learner, CTO of Volicon regarding the recent closed captioning legislation, upcoming 2017 legislative deadlines for video clips and near-live TV programming, and their implications. Gary will conclude with an overview of solutions available for monitoring closed captioning quality, how networks can achieve compliance while improving customers’ experiences, and how to control costs.
Gary will conclude with a Q&A session at the end of the webinar.
