Volicon Observer® Simplifies Compliance Monitoring for Malawi Regulator
Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) Reduces Cost and Complexity of Radio and TV Monitoring Operations With Observer Installation
BURLINGTON, Mass. — Nov. 14, 2012 — Volicon today announced that Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) is using the Observer® digital video monitoring and logging system to monitor all television and radio broadcasts for regulatory compliance. Supplied, installed, and configured by local systems integrator and Volicon reseller Skywaves, the Observer system enables MACRA to perform efficient, cost-effective, and flexible compliance monitoring for Malawi’s growing number of licensed broadcasters.
“The Observer installation has allowed MACRA to move from monitoring broadcast channels independently, each with a dedicated staff member and workstation, to monitoring all broadcast channels from a single PC, operated by just one person,” said Dean Ng’oma, managing director at Skywaves. “In addition to simplifying MACRA’s compliance monitoring operations, the Volicon system has given the organization more robust storage for recorded content.”
Volicon’s Observer system captures, stores, and streams aired content and gives monitoring staff instant access to live and recorded content from an easy-to-use Web-based GUI. Users at the desktop can monitor the content going out to air or dial back as many as 90 days to find and provide proof that content aired properly. MACRA is currently monitoring 17 radio stations and four television stations.
“Partnering closely with Skywaves, we’ve successfully delivered a state-of-the-art broadcast monitoring system in Malawi, and the resulting Volicon installation provides a versatile foundation for easy, effective compliance monitoring, even as the country’s broadcast landscape evolves,” said Russell Wise, vice president of global sales at Volicon.
